The Tbilisi Youth Orchestra, named after Giya Kancheli, was founded in 2019 by composer Mika Mdinaradze and conductor Mirian Khukhunaishvili, based at the National Palace, with the support of Tbilisi City Hall.

The orchestra’s main goal is to provide young musicians with essential professional experience and to support their development into professional orchestral players.

Since its founding, the orchestra has performed over 30 concerts in Tbilisi, across various regions of Georgia, and in the Republic of San Marino.

The orchestra collaborates with renowned conductors and soloists, including Vakhtang Kakhidze, Gogi Chichinadze, Andrey Boreyko, Claudio Vandelli, Fuad Ibrahimov, Anna Meredith, Paavo Järvi, Stathis Karapanos, Anastasia Kobekina, Polina Osetinskaya, Bruce Liu, Gidon Kremer, and others.

It also collaborates with young Georgian conductors and soloists such as Kakhi Solomnishvili, Levan Jagaev, Sandro Nebieridze, and Giorgi Gigashvili.

The orchestra’s repertoire spans from the Baroque era to contemporary works, with a special focus on promoting the Georgian school of composition.

Key concerts and festivals include:

• 19 August 2023 — Young Euro Classic, Konzerthaus Berlin (premieres by Aleksandre Kordzaia (Kordz) and Mika Mdinaradze).

• 19 June 2024 — Closing concert of the Toradze International Festival, Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre, conducted by Paavo Järvi.

• 2 September 2024 — Tsinandali International Festival, featuring works by Beethoven and Chopin, conducted by Claudio Vandelli.

• 7 November 2024 — Concert with Gidon Kremer at the Grand Hall of the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, conducted by Mirian Khukhunaishvili.
